Choosing Your Lake Mountain Bike Shoe
The MTB Range
Race — MX333. Our flagship MTB shoe. 100% carbon fibre sole with real rubber off-road tread and durable TPU lugs with toe spike provisions. Choose between Clarino Microfiber or Helcor abrasion-resistant leather uppers. Carbitex Medial Support panel. Dual BOA Li2 dials. Outlast temperature-regulating liner. Heat-mouldable Thermaform carbon fibre heel counter for a personalised fit. Available in Narrow, Regular, and Wide. Custom colour options available.
Hard-to-fit — MX242. Designed specifically for riders with bunions, deformities, or difficult foot shapes. The MX242's upper is segmented into 6 independent zones — each wrapping your foot independently, accommodating bumps and bony prominences that would cause pressure in a conventional shoe. Full carbon fibre sole with real rubber Mountain Competition tread. Ecco full-grain leather and Helcor panels. Dual BOA Li2. Mouldable heel counter. Regular and Wide.
Performance — MX239. The performance all-rounder. Full carbon fibre sole with Mountain Competition real rubber tread and extended protection. Clarino Microfiber or Helcor leather upper with Outlast heel lining. Dual BOA Li2 dials with wider spacing than the MX238 for more precise two-zone adjustment. Regular and Wide. Sizes 37-52.
Comfort and versatility — MX201. Built on our widest last — the Comfort Plus Last — the MX201 gives your toes the room they need to spread naturally under load. Fibreglass-injected nylon sole with real rubber Enduro tread. Dual BOA Li2. Here's what makes the MX201 unique: it's compatible with both SPD clipless pedals and flat/cage pedals, so you can ride clipped in on the trail and flat on your commute. Cleat Caps sold separately.
Sport — MX190, MX177, MX169. Our entry-level MTB range, built for riders entering the sport or those who want durable, well-fitting shoes for recreational riding and commuting. Fibreglass-injected nylon soles with real rubber Enduro tread — the same grippy outsole compound used on our performance shoes. The MX190 features dual BOA L6 dials, the MX177 uses a single BOA L6, and the MX169 features laces with our most hiking-friendly sole. MX190 and MX177: Regular and Wide. MX169: Regular only, Comfort Plus Last, also flat-pedal compatible (Cleat Caps sold separately).
Why Riders Choose Lake for MTB
It comes down to fit. Too many MTB shoe brands design for a single, narrow foot shape — and if your foot doesn't match, you're stuck with numbness, hot spots, and painful rides. Here at Lake, we build our MTB shoes on multiple last shapes, each available in multiple widths, so you can find a shoe that wraps your foot like a second skin instead of squeezing it into a compromise.
That's why bike fitters around the world consistently recommend Lake: because we offer more ways to get the fit right than anyone else in cycling.
