Every Lake gravel shoe uses 2-bolt SPD-compatible cleats and features carbon fibre soles with real rubber tread — the stiffness of a road shoe with the walkability of an MTB shoe. Whether you're racing an ultra-gravel event, bikepacking across Europe, or exploring new routes on mixed terrain, your feet won't be the limiting factor.

Our gravel range features the same anatomical fit and wide-sizing options that Lake is known for. Most models come in Regular and Wide, and several offer Narrow as well.

Choosing Your Lake Gravel Shoe

The Gravel Range

Performance BOA — MX239 Gravel. Our top gravel shoe. Full carbon fibre sole with Mountain Race X real rubber tread — lighter rubber coverage than the MTB MX239 for reduced weight and more flexibility on gravel and mixed terrain. Dual BOA Li2 push/pull dials with side-mounted releasable guides. Choose between Clarino Microfiber, Helcor leather, or Recycled Leather uppers. Outlast heel lining. Regular and Wide. The shoe that proves you don't have to sacrifice fit for gravel performance.

Race Fit BOA — MX30G. Built on our Race Last for a second-skin fit. 100% carbon fibre sole with TPU lugs and toe spike provisions. Dual BOA Li2. Choose between hard-wearing Clarino Microfiber or highly breathable mesh that dries quickly after water crossings — ideal for adventure rides that take you through streams and mud. Narrow, Regular, and Wide. Sizes 36-50.

Lace-up Performance — MX21G. Full carbon fibre sole, Competition Last, traditional lace closure. The clean aesthetic and even pressure distribution of laces combined with Lake's carbon sole technology. Clarino Microfiber upper with internal gripper heel liner and rubber toe bumper. Regular and Wide.

Lace-up Race — MX20G. Race Last fit with 100% carbon fibre sole, TPU lugs, and toe spike provisions. Lace closure. Clarino Microfiber and mesh upper. The lightest gravel shoe in our range. Narrow, Regular, and Wide. Sizes 36-50.

Adventure — LXSDL Sandal. For the truly adventurous. An open-toe, open-heel SPD-compatible cycling sandal built on the Comfort Plus Last with a fibreglass-injected nylon sole and real rubber Enduro tread. Hook-and-eye strapping. Pair with the optional LXSDL Bootie for wind protection on cooler rides. Regular only.

What Makes Gravel Shoes Different from MTB Shoes?

Both use 2-bolt SPD cleats, but gravel shoes are designed for a different balance of priorities. Gravel shoes use lighter rubber tread coverage for less weight and more flexibility, while MTB shoes use full rubber coverage for maximum grip on technical terrain. Gravel shoes are lighter with a lower, sleeker profile — great for mixed terrain, long road sections, and bikepacking. MTB shoes are heavier with more protection — built for trails, technical terrain, and hike-a-bike.

If most of your riding is tarmac with gravel sectors, a gravel shoe is the better choice. If you frequently hike or ride technical singletrack, go with our MTB range.

FAQ

Can I use gravel shoes on a road bike?

Absolutely — if your road bike has SPD pedals. Many riders prefer the walkability of SPD gravel shoes even on road rides. The only trade-off is slightly less cleat contact area than a 3-bolt road cleat.

Do Lake gravel shoes come in wide?

Yes. The MX239 Gravel, MX30G, MX21G, and MX20G are all available in Wide. The MX30G and MX20G also come in Narrow.

What is the difference between MX239 Gravel and MX239 MTB?

Same sole platform and upper construction. The key difference is rubber tread coverage: the Gravel version has less rubber for lighter weight and more flexibility. The MTB version has full rubber coverage for maximum grip on loose, technical terrain.

Can I fit toe spikes?

The MX30G and MX20G have toe spike provisions. The MX239 Gravel does not.

Which gravel shoe is best for bikepacking?

The MX239 Gravel offers the best balance of stiffness, walkability, and comfort for long days. If you want a lighter, more race-oriented fit, the MX30G on the Race Last is excellent. For warm-weather adventure, the LXSDL Sandal is unlike anything else on the market.
